Being Authentic | |
What does being authentic mean to you? To me being authentic is about being genuine. As a child we are often chastised for being, too honest or genuine. Parents can find it confronting when a child, “says it like it is.” Parents can only teach from their own view point and pool of knowledge. If they were taught it is inappropriate to be honest, then they will pass this on. Where is the line, that too honest can be hurtful? There is a wonderful acronym that reminds us when. Before you speak: T H I N K – T- is it true?, H – is it helpful?, I – is it inspiring?, N – is it necessary?, K – is it kind? This is a wonderful system for everyday, however if you are processing then you may find it N – necessary to allow a flow in the company of a coach, guide, counsellor or therapist, to assist you to understand the underlying emotions, thoughts and behavioural connections to understand that healing maybe necessary. A part of the healing process can be to acknowledge what is authethic, real or true for you. If you are seeking assistance understanding how you can be authethic, just ask.
