What does mindfulness mean to you? Mindfulness is the ability to become the observer in your own life. With compassion observe your inner world body, feelings, thoughts and spirit and your interaction with your outer world experience. If this all seems too much in this moment, start small. Pick one emotion, and observe when it arises within you, throughout one day, being mindful to note any trigger from your outer world, and simply observe and release with compassion. Example of an easy exercise of mindfulness: Today, I will be mindful of the arising emotion of ……. (Pick one emotion – anger, sadness, craving, jealously, depression, restlessness, anxiety, hatred, irritation, dislike, melancholy, fear, worry, desire, envy, love, kindness, joy, peace etc). I will just be the observer. I will note when this emotion arises within, and note what is happening in my outer world. Eg. Worry, I feel worry arising as I watch the morning news, I observe the connection and I release with compassion. Mindfulness can come through meditation and Journalling. I believe it can also be found through non-volient or needs based communication. This technique is all about being mindful. It is all about self-awareness and self-connection, being aware of your needs and what you feel when your needs aren’t met, observing with self-empathy and self-compassion, and expressing gratitude for the way others have enriched your life. Again Journal, journal, journal…..meditate, meditate, meditate….be the observer and become mindful. This is the path to consciousness and being aware in each moment what you create. Awareness of awareness leads to enlightenment. Take your next step.
